Compositing and VFX

Visual effects are an integral part of the success of any modern commercial and movie. The processing of images after live shooting allows us to create ultra-modern videos, with animations, backgrounds and effects that recreate the most diverse scenarios present in nature or science fiction. Video compositing is essential in the professional processing of digital video. Enriching and improving a movie through the addition of digital effects, animated graphics and overlapping of multiple video layers, allows a high control of the final rendering and the multiplication of the expressive possibilities of an audiovisual.

Through Camera Tracking we can reconstruct the camera movements performed during a shot and, in post-production, integrate the position, movements and lighting of any computer graphic object into the video.

3D computer graphics

Rendering is the basic word of our vocabulary as augmented and virtual reality. Designing a character, conceiving not only its shape but its character, its strengths and weaknesses, all through modeling and sculpting, requires all the passion and creativity that we put at the customer’s service. Our 3D modelers are able to create high-definition or low-poly models of any type of object and for any use, from cinema to video games. The last frontier of creativity is certainly 3D animation. Applications are only to be imagined: starting from the animation of one’s own logo that develops along unexpected paths, passing to simulate the real physics of moving objects, we come to the realization of complete contents, entirely realized in 3D modeling and animation.

Virtual set

Virtual studio is a solution technology for many audiovisual products. The mouldability, versatility and contained costs of a virtual scene, in three-dimensional graphics, allow freedom of direction, creativity and personalization. What is a virtual studio? Although it has been used for several years, this technique is not commonly known, although it is increasingly common on television. More properly, a set of techniques, based on various technologies, that allows to merge real and virtual images in real time, with a high degree of visual coherence, thus offering the possibility of creating a classic TV set, goes under the name of virtual studio.  with the added potential of 3D graphics.

It is a television studio that allows the combination in real time of people and physical objects with a scenography generated in computer graphics. The well-known chromakey technology is also used to implement this integration.

A fundamental point that identifies a virtual study is the freedom with which the real chamber can move in space. In fact, the computer generated scenography is produced simultaneously with the correct position, perspective, focus and inclination. This element differentiates a virtual study from a simple chromakey. In Weprosys, to maximize this aspect, a three-chamber system was created, one of which was installed on a 4.5-meter boom with a 6-meter trolley. The mobility of this room highlights the potential of the virtual set, allowing maximum integration between people and set design, all in real time. Weprosys is thus able to deliver the product to the customer in an extremely short time.

A virtual studio does not require post-production and therefore can also be used for live television broadcasts. The freedom of video shooting just described cannot be found in products made in post-production with fixed chamber. Regardless of the movement or not of the camera, the times of realization are however longer and increase in the case in which room tracking techniques are used to obtain results comparable to a virtual set.

Augmented reality

Augmented reality consists of the addition of graphic information consistent with the reality observed through an optical device (webcam, camera). Weprosys has developed augmented reality applications both in the broadcasting field for its virtual studio and in the mobile environment.

The tracking camera systems adopted by Weprosys for the Augmented Reality service are of two types:

Mechanical tracking
Tracking based on optical analysis (Tag)

Mechanical tracking: This technology requires the installation of the camera on a mechanical structure (tripod, arm …) that has electronic components for detecting all degrees of freedom of the system. It is more suitable, and is proposed above all, for classic television studios. All data collected by mechanical encoders are “packaged” and sent via serial to the graphic engine by an electronic control unit.

Tracking based on optical analysis (Tag): This technology does not require electromechanical devices (the camera can also be held in the shoulder). The tracking camera process, in this case, takes place through the observation in the shooting field, of a real and known object called TAG (a white tile with a black frame in our case, but also brand able in case you want) that occupies at least 1/10 of the entire picture framework. The Tag can be “managed” even in motion … holding it for example in hand and telling the specifications of the 3D model starring at that time.

Both systems are developed exclusively by Weprosys.
