3D modeling is popular today in many areas of activity; however, most of those who only periodically encounter 3D models and are not involved in their production have a very weak idea of how a 2D image acquires depth. In fact, this is quite interesting.
The main components of the three-dimensional model
In order to understand the methods used in the creation of three-dimensional images using special programs, it is necessary first of all to operate with certain terms adopted in the developer’s environment:
The vertex is a point with certain coordinates, located at the intersection of three axes. Such a point is called a vertex for the reason that in a certain figure it is either extreme for a single polygon (we will talk about them later) or a three-dimensional figure.
Face – connects two peaks.
Polygon – Polygon, which is what the visualizer works with. Most software tools for creating 3D models are designed for the use of rectangular or triangular polygons, from the connection of which the surface of any model is added.
The more polygons are used in the model, the more detailed and approximate to the natural it will look. However, you can use so-called normal maps (special textures that can give the appearance of a more complex surface, even for models with a small number of polygons). In addition, for maximum effect, various ready-made textures are used, which make the model more realistic by simulating a certain material.
Why save on landfills? The fact is that high detailing absolutely always requires high powers of the computer on which this model is processed, because of the huge number of vertices on which polygons are built.
How to create a 3d model
Work begins with a sketch or getting the object itself, from which the model will be played. For example, we want to create a virtual three-dimensional wardrobe in order to place it in the interior and see how organically it will fit there. If the finished cabinet is not at our disposal, which often happens in interior visualization, the technical characteristics, the image from the catalog or the designer’s sketch will do.
Based on the available data, work is carried out to model the geometry of the future cabinet, after which a scan is created and textures are superimposed. Depending on what texture is required, you can take it from the library or create it yourself. Fortunately, there are a lot of ready-made textures for furniture, so it’s easy to choose the right one. We adjust the remaining parameters – and after that the model is ready for visualization, that is, to create a 3D model of your image.
It seems that this is quite simple, especially considering that everything is done in special programs. However, in fact, this is a long process, and the result depends entirely on the professionalism of the performer.
As a result, I want to say that it is possible to master such a way of modeling for most of us. But, if you need a one-time build of a model, and you do not have time to spend time with the program, it’s better to refer to someone who already knows how to create three-dimensional models of the objects you need.
